The state government had acquired over 3,500 acres land in various villages in this district for a multi-model logistic hub. Later, after a prolonged stir by the farmers in July, the move was suspended.
The meeting, which was held yesterday under Bhoomi Adhigrahan Virodhi Sangharsh Samiti at Asalwas village, has threatened to re-launch the stir next month.
The farmers expressed dissatisfaction over "lackadaisical" approach of the government, saying despite an assurance by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to its delegation on July 25 that land acquisition would be suspended, nothing has been done so far.
Rakesh Tikait, national president of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) was the main speaker at the Mahapanchayat, while Daya Ram, a former sarpanch of Bagthala village, presided over its proceedings.
In his address, Tikait said, "When the land belonged to the farmers, it could not be acquired by the government against their wishes for any project."
"When farmers throughout the country were at the war path against such acquisitions, it was a ripe time for the government to enact the proposed land acquisition bill," he said.
A large number of farmers from Asalwas, Patuhera, Kheda Murar, Banipur, Mangleshwar, Deeodhayee, Garhi, Bolni, Bagthala, Kasaula, Kasauli, Bakhapur, Lodhana, took part in the Mahapanchayat.
The state government has already constituted a joint committee, comprising of government representatives and some members from the farmers' organisations, to find a solution to the issue.
