Maharashtra aims to make slums free from open defecation

As a part of the Swachh Bharat campaign, the Maharashtra government plans to make the slums free from open defecation.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who attended a meeting of the Chief Ministers' sub-group at Niti Ayog on Swachh Bharat campaign, said the state made suggestions regarding the land under the control of Central government, under CRZ and changes needed to enable the state to make the slums open defecation free.

He expressed happiness that the suggestions were included in the final draft of the sub-group.

"We all arrived at a broad consensus on various issues for inclusion in the final draft of the report. All chief ministers made valuable contribution," he tweeted.
 

An official in the Chief Minister's office said there are slums on several parcels of land belonging to the Central government, especially in and around Mumbai, where the state government can not provide any facilities due the issue of jurisdiction.
