Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls, the state's chief electoral officer (CEO) Baldev Singh has asked all officials and entities concerned to get ready to ensure a "free, fair and transparent" election.

The Assembly election is due in October.

"All the machineries should be ready to ensure the forthcoming elections are held in a free, peaceful, fearless and transparent manner," Singh said, according to an official statement.

Singh, appointed Maharashtra CEO in July this year, made the remarks at a meeting of officials of different departments held on Tuesday to review the poll preparation, the statement said.

Singh asked the officials to prepare a standard operating procedure in view of seizure of illegal cash during the poll period.

He told the Railways to ensure timely transportation of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and security personnel.

Special Inspector General (Law and Order) Milind Bharambe informed the meeting about security arrangements planned for the upcoming polls.

He also informed to have sought additional 400 companies of security personnel to guard EVM strong rooms, the statement said.

Transport Commissioner Shekhar Channe spoke about the arrangements made for transportation of EVMs and availability of vehicles for poll-related works.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Central Reserve Police Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Narcotics Control Bureau, Airports Authority of India and other departments, the statement said.
