The meeting took place at the Sahaydri guest house.

Chavan, who belongs to the Congress, has indicated that he plans to give a new look to his Cabinet soon.

"It (Cabinet expansion) can take place either before Diwali or ahead of the Winter session of the state legislature next month," Congress sources said.

Discussions are on between Congress and NCP, who are sharing power in Maharashtra for over a decade now, on this issue, they said.

A white paper on irrigation, a department controlled by NCP since 1999, is also expected to be published before the Winter session of the Maharashtra legislature.

In late September, NCP leader Ajit Pawar resigned as Deputy Chief Minister in the wake of allegations of corruption and irregularities in the Irrigation department which he headed between 1999 and 2009.

Lately, Congress and NCP leaders in the state had been trading charges against each other over the alleged scam in the irrigation department.
