Maharashtra dominates day one at aquatic meet

Maharashtra set the pool ablaze today, winning nine gold, four silver and one bronze medals on the opening day of the 30th Sub-Junior National Aquatic Championship here.

Fourteen events in different groups took place on day one of the championship being held at Campal swimming pool.

Saheel Gangote won the first gold for Maharashtra in the 50m backstroke for boys in Group IV. Rayna Saldanha and Mitali Darda increased the tally for Maharashtra, winning gold and bronze in the 200m freestyle in Group III.

Genevieve Atala D'Costa, of hosts Goa, won silver in 1m spring board event for girls in Group I.
 

Nearly a dozen teams are taking part in the four-day event.
