"Out of the total recruitment of IAS officers in the country per year, we have sought 15 per cent for the state," an official spokesperson said today.

There has been an acute shortage of IAS officers in the state at present with 66 vacancies.

There are 284 officers of the IAS cadre in Maharashtra against the sanctioned strength of 350, he said.

Meanwhile, the state government has decided to regulate the intake of lower level officers/staff and if any department requires more staff, it has to justify its demand before a committee set up for the purpose which would take the necessary decision, he said.
