A 30-year-old farmer, whose family has a debt of Rs 3.71 lakh, allegedly committed suicide near here in North Maharashtra, police said today.

Bapu Bhima Sambherao alias Krishna, a resident of Manori village, hanged himself from a tree near his house yesterday, an official of Lasagaon Police Station said.

The family of Sambherao, who got married two years ago, was finding it difficult to repay a bank loan of Rs 3.71 lakh taken in his father's name, he said.

The failure to repay the loan may have led Sambherao to take the extreme step, the official said.
