Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao today prorogued the Legislative Assembly at the end of a month-long budget session.

Speaker Haribhau Bagde read out a communication from the governor proroguing the Assembly, whose budget session started on February 26.

The session saw 22 sittings and the budget was presented on March 9.

The monsoon session of the state legislature will start on July 4.

However, the governor's order, read out by the Speaker, did not mention whether the monsoon session will be held in Mumbai or Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra.

The state cabinet recently decided to set up a cabinet sub-committee to hold talks with the Opposition leaders to finalise the venue of of the monsoon session.

"The cabinet has decided that the monsoon session would be held either in Nagpur or Mumbai from July 4," said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Girish Bapat last week.

As per convention, the winter session of the legislature is held in Nagpur, while Mumbai hosts the monsoon and budget sessions.

Bapat had said the issues related to Vidarbha and Marathwada regions would be discussed during the three-week- long monsoon session.
