Maharashtra Health Minister Suresh Shetty has appealed to striking medical officers under the public health department to end their agitation and resume duty.

In an statement issued here today Shetty urged doctors not to cause trouble to citizens.

On June 2, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan held discussions with Maharashtra State Gazetted Medical Officers Organisation officials regarding their demands, but they chose to go on strike within a month from yesterday.

He said that the strike is illegal and against the interests of the people.

"I appeal to them to call off their agitation and resume duty," he said.

Primary health care centres and district hospitals have been affected due to the strike.
