A 21-year-old man allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Virar in neighbouring Palghar district, police said today.

Somnath Shinde, hailing from Sangamner in Ahmednagar district, took a selfie before killing himself last night, a senior police official said.

He had come to Virar in search of a job but failed to get one. He had paid Rs 60,000 to an agent to get a job, the officer added.

"We suspect that Shinde was depressed as he failed to get a job. We also suspect that he was concerned that he would be unable to repay the loan taken by his parents," the officer said.

According to the officer, a suicide note was found from the spot.

A case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered, he said, adding a probe was on.
