Maharashtra: Mob tries to burn alive policemen

An irate mob allegedly tried to burn alive members of a police team, who had gone to nab accused involved in chain snatching and other cases in Ambivili village of the district, police said today.

A police team comprising one Assistant Police Inspector, two Police Sub Inspectors and seven constables had on Friday gone to the village to nab the accused involved in cases including those of chain snatching, Senior Police Inspector G Y Gore of Khadakpada police station told PTI.

When the team was in the village, a mob of around 20 people poured kerosene on them and tried to burn them alive, he said.
 

After this, the mob fled away from the spot. A case under relevant sections of IPC was lodged. So far no arrests have been made, he said, adding a probe was on.
