Maharashtra rains: Girl falls into nullah, dies in Yavatmal

A four-year-old girl today died after she fell into a nullah during heavy rains in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, a senior official said.

District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh said that Akansha Anil Gaikwad was playing on the road near a nullah, in Chikli Kanoba village of Ner tehsil, when she fell into it.

The incident happened at around 1:30pm and the villagers, who found girl in the nullah some distance ahead, rushed her to the local hospital were doctors declared her dead on arrival, he said.

This is the fifth monsoon-related death in the district since the rains began this year, an official said.

Earlier, two persons in Pusad and one each in Wani and Kelapur tehsils were washed away by floods.

 

The district has recorded 357.14 mm of water since June 1, officials said today.

They said that Nilona Dam, the man source of drinking water for the city, was overflowing while another, Chapdoh Dam, was about 40 per cent full.
