Maharashtra State Police Games formally inaugurated

Nearly 3,000 police personnel, including women, are taking part in Maharashtra State Police Games (MSPG) 2015 which were formally inaugurated today.

Thane Police Commissioner Vijay Kamble declared open the 27th edition of the Games at Naigaon Police Ground though the week-long competitions in various sporting disciplines got underway from last Sunday.

Ceremonial arrival of torch, lighting of sports flames and oath by athletes marked the opening of the games. Cultural programmes enthralled the spectators, adding to the flavour of the event.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, Joint Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar and other senior police officials were present during the event. The family members of police personnel, too, attended the inauguration ceremony.
 

Running, boxing, kho kho, hockey, football, basket- ball, athletics, volleyball, wrestling, kabbadi and swimming are among the games, where the police personnel are vying for honours.

The competitions are being held at Naigaon Police Ground at Parel, Railway Ground in Ghatkopar and M G Swimming Pool in Shivaji Park, Cenral Mumbai.

Bollywood celebrities are likely to visit these venues to boost the participants.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will present trophies to winning teams when the event culminates on February 28.
