Maharashtra to honour tribals on Worlds Indigenous People Day

The Maharashtra government's tribal development department will celebrate the 'International Day of the World's Indigenous People' on August 9 and to mark the occasion, it will felicitate tribals for their achievements.

As part of the celebrations, an event will be organised at Suresh Bhat Auditorium here, Tribal Development Minister Ashok Uike said.

Addressing a press conference at Ravi Bhavan here, he said several tribal people will be felicitated at the programme for their achievements in various fields.

He said 11 tribal students who had scaled Mt Everest (Mission Shaurya) will be felicitated on the occasion.

Similarly, Uike said, 29 'Adivasi Sewak Puraskar' and nine 'Adivasi Sewak Sanstha Puraskar' will be presented.

 

The minister also informed that 154 tribal students, who have done well in 10th and 12th standard examinations, will be honoured at the event.

Besides, 56 tribal personalities will be felicitated with 'Maharashtra Adivasi Ratna' award, he added.
