Mahashweta Devi shocked at lynching of tribal women

"I talked to senior police officers and urged them to to ascertain the facts," the octogenarian winner of several national and international awards and who has worked for tribal welfare for over 50 years, told PTI here.

Stating that she felt disturbed at such barbaric acts among tribals, Mahashweta Devi said, "I have always fought against the practice of witchcraft."

Bodies of three tribal women were discovered yesterday at Pherarghat village after they were lynched on Monday following the death of a boy.
