Eminent litterateur Mahasweta Devi today celebrated her 90th birthday in her hospital bed where West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee went to wish her.
Banerjee went to see Devi in the hospital with a cake and spent around 45 minutes there, and inquired about her health.
The 90-year-old writer-activist, who has won a number of awards including the Jnanpith award, Padma Vibhushan and Ramon Magsaysay award, was admitted a few days ago to private hospital Belle Vue Clinic following complaints of breathing trouble and other age-related illness.
Doctors attending to her said Devi would be released from the facility tomorrow.
