Mahatma Gandhi remembered in TN on 145th birth anniversary

Mahatma Gandhi was remembered across Tamil Nadu on the occasion of his 145th birth anniversary today.

Governor K Rosaiah and Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, besides AIADMK Ministers, paid floral tributes to a portrait of Gandhi at the Marina Beach here.

Later, at an event organised by the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan, the Governor paid rich tributes to the freedom fighter, saying "the Father of our Nation has a unique place not only in our country's history, but also in that of the whole world."

"He showcased to the entire world that non-violence and ahimsa are the greatest tools for achieving freedom...Gandhiji gave a new impetus to our nation's freedom movement," he said.
 

At the DMDK office, party founder and Opposition Leader in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Vijayakant paid floral tributes to a portrait of Gandhi.

Functions were also held in many parts of the state to mark Gandhi's birth anniversary.
