Mahe region, an enclave of Puducherry in Kerala, should emerge as a shining example and role model for other regions of the Union Territory in the implementation of Swachh Movement, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today said.

A release from the office of Lt Governor here said, during her visit to Mahe on Friday to review developmental projects there, she saw for herself the progress of the construction work of a trauma care centre at the government hospital among other projects.

"The visit brought to the fore certain crisis points that need focus of attention," the Lt Governor observed.

Later, during a meeting with the officials and public in Mahe, she said the region would be the first of four regions in the Union Territory to be declared as "open defecation free (ODF) on November 30."

Bedi also appealed to the residents of Mahe to partner with the government in its endeavour to make it ODF free by November 30.

Earlier on November 8, an official release had said that Mahe would be declared as ODF region on November 11, which was rescheduled to November 30.
