Maheshwari's leapt of 16.85m, which he came up in his fifth and penultimate attempt, erased the old meet record of 16.72m which he himself created in 2007.
The silver went to ONGC's Arpinder Singh (16.20m) while the bronze was won by Raja Sekar of Tamil Nadu with a leapt of 15.79m.
Except for the meet record of Maheshwari, it was below par performance by the athletes in the other events of the day at the NIS tracks here.
Krishna Kumar Rane of Maharashtra won the men's 100m gold with a timing of 10.51secs while the silver and bronze went to Shameer Mon of Kerala and Manikananad Raj of Andhra Pradesh with timings of 10.54s and 10.55s respectively.
The women's 100m race was won Manisha of Haryana in 11.93secs while Srabani Nanda (12.06s) of Orissa and Shirke Bhagyashree (12.28s) of Maharashtra were second and third respectively.
