Chairperson of the all India Mahila Congress Shobha Oza today hit out at the Rangasamy led AINRC government in Puducherry for "failing to implement various promises and assurances held out to the people of Union Territory" during the run up to the Assembly polls in 2011.

Addressing a meeting of women cadres attached to the opposition Congress here today she said the Narendra Modi government at the Centre had slashed allocations in the budget relating to health and education.

"The important projects like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and also the Integrated Child Development Scheme enforced by the previous Congress led UPA government had been ignored by the Centre hitting the poor and have-nots", she said calling upon the people to establish mass contact programmes.

She said late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was keen about ensuring a quota of 50 per cent for women in the local bodies. This had not been given effect to in Puducherry. The various shortcomings of the Puducherry government should be exposed by the women workers of the Congress here.
