With Congress upping the ante against Modi government on issues including 'Lalitgate', and Vyapam, its women wing will hold a 'gherao' of Parliament on August 8 days before Monsoon session comes to an end.

The decision was taken at a two-day national executive meeting of Mahila Congress, which will conclude tomorrow with an address by party Vice President Rahul Gandhi during which the roadmap of action by party's women wing for next three months will be chalked out.

Former Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh and Party's Communication department chairman Randeep Surjewala, who addressed the meeting today told the Mahila Congress workers to take up aggressively issues of "corruption" against the NDA government as well as its decision to change the provisions of UPA's land bill of 2013 to block level.

"We will hold a protest march to Parliament against the NDA government going back on its pre-election promises like bringing back black money, checking crime against women and working for the poor. We will hold a march to Parliament and gherao it.

"The government has totally forgotten all that it promised and we will take it up not only in the national capital but take the agitation to block level," Mahila Congress chief Shobha Oza told PTI after the meeting.

Sources said that in his address, Ramesh spoke at length on the issue of land acquisition and about how the NDA government has "reduced" the funding in social schemes.

Ramesh is learnt to have said that while the World Bank hailed the effectiveness of UPA's rural job flagship scheme MGNREGA, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made fun of the scheme.

"Modi government is diluting social schemes and is trying to weaken MGNREGA. There is a need to tell people about this aggressively," he is learnt to have said at the internal meeting.
