Mahilpur FC Punjab move into semis

Mahilpur Football Club (Punjab) today stormed into semi-finals of the 4th All India Football Tournament for 'Bihar Cup' defeating BRC (Danapur) 3-2 in a thrilling quarterfinal encounter at Moin-ul Haq stadium here.

In a keenly-contested second last-eight match, the Punjab side took a lead in 9th minute when Barinder Singh (Jr) tapped in a volley into the opposition net after taking a cross from Sukhdeo Singh.

BRC (Danapur) scored the equalizer in 24th minute after its striker Gulshan Kumar struck from a long range shot from midfield.

The local team has an opportunity to double up the score in its favour, but Sonu Hembram missed a sitter in 26th minute.
 

The first half ended at 1-1.

In the second half, BRC boys combined together and made some good moves before Bushi Manjhi controlled a cross from Budheshwar and found the target in 81 first minute to give a help his team take 2-1 lead over the Punjab outfit.

Punjab created plenty of chances of its own, but Sukhdeo, Manjit and Harinder failed to find the net from close.

A desperate Punjab went all out in attack and the equalizer came in the 85th minute when Harinder Singh struck through a grounder from a pass by Gurpreet.

The two teams were locked at 2-2 at the end of full time, but the Punjab team held upper hand in extra time and Barinder Singh's (Sr) struck in 117th minute to make it 3-2 for the visitors.

SBT, Kerala will meet Army XI, Kolkata in the third quarter-final match tomorrow.
