The case of alleged wrongful confinement of a man and his son has been transferred to the crime branch, five days after his daughter Mahima committed suicide here, police said today.

The case has been transferred to the crime branch from New Mandi police on the order of SSP. The crime branch has begun the investigation, SP Crime Aditya Verma said.

The case came to light when Mahima (19) committed suicide on February 16 after her brother went missing, police said.

According to the victim's mother Sanju Devi, Mahima's father Ved Prakash and her brother were held hostage by some influential persons. While Prakash had returned home, her brother remained missing.

Last week, following a complaint by the victim's family, police had booked four persons, who are absconding, for allegedly wrongfully confining Prakash and his son and abetting Mahima's suicide.
