Chopper service to the hilly Doda district from here started today with the Jammu and Kashmir government hoping the move would boost tourism and improve connectivity.

The first air service between Doda and Jammu was flagged off by MLA Shakti Raj Parihar in Doda district, an official spokesman said.

He said the service would connect the people of the area with the rest of state, especially during adverse weather conditions, and give fillip to tourism in the district.

The helicopter from Jammu to Doda and vice-versa would operate twice a week--every Tuesday and Friday, the spokesman said, adding that one-way fare has been fixed at Rs 2,500.

Last month, similar services were started between Jammu- Poonch and Jammu-Rajouri districts.
