Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences today launched its six mobile dental vans in a bid to improve the access and availability of oral health services in the rural areas of Delhi-NCR.

This event, organised as part of the National Health Mission, was launched by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. The vehicles were flagged off from the MAIDS premises.

Jung stressed on the importance of oral health in the process of economic and social development and in improving the quality of life of the citizens.

The Government has resolved to launch the National Health Mission to carry out necessary architectural correction in the basic dental health care delivery system. It was therefore necessary to target special groups like children, geriatrics and pregnant women.

"The outreach programs will target initially the North East District and provide comprehensive treatment like emergency care, preventive care, routine curative care, and necessary referral," said Dr Mahesh Verma, Director-Principal, MAIDS, adding that dental surgeons and hygienists have been recruited for the project.
