Main accused in Nayna Pujari rape case re-arrested from Shirdi

Yogesh Raut, the main accused in the gangrape and murder of software engineer Nayana Pujari here, has been re-arrested from Shirdi after being absconding for 20 months, police said today.

Raut was arrested yesterday by Pune crime branch in the temple town where he had arrived from Delhi to offer prayers, they said.

Raut and his three accomplices had kidnapped the 28-year-old techie. The woman was later found raped and murdered on October 7, 2009, in Zarewadi forest area in Khed.

The accused was arrested but had escaped from the Sasoon hospital on September 17, 2011, while in custody and had been absconding since then.
 

According to police, Raut was living in a slum in the Trilok Puri area of Delhi under the fake name Ravikumar Ashokkumar Bhalla. He was working as an office boy in Delhi during the day and in a laundry at night.

During investigations, it was revealed that Raut had used a driving licence and also a PAN card in the name of Ravikumar Bhalla.
