Main accused in SP leader murder case arrested: Police

Police today claimed to have arrested the main accused in the Samajwadi Party leader Chaman Bhati murder case.

Ravi, a resident of Dabra, was arrested during checking of vehicles at Ghodi Bachheda area in Dadri, SSP Preetinder Singh.

A pistol and two live cartridges were seized from his possession, Singh said.

"Ravi along with others allegedly killed Bhati," he said, adding police had announced a reward of Rs 5,000 on his arrest.

Samajwadi Party national executive member Bhati was shot dead by assailants in Dabra village here, triggering protests by villagers who demanded arrest of the killers.

The assailants scaled the boundary wall of the house of 35-year-old Bhati on April 24 and shot him dead.
 

The attack came on a day when the two gunners provided for his security were on leave, police said.
