Maintenance work at Ganga Canal to affect water supply

Water supply will be affected for a month in Delhi, Noida, Agra and 19 districts of Uttar Pradesh due to maintenance work being carried out in the Ganga Canal beginning today.

Superintending Engineer, state Irrigation Department, AK Sharma told reporters that Ganga Canal will be closed till November 20 for maintenance work and advised farmers to use private tube-wells and pumping sets to irrigate their fields.

The 19 districts that will face shortage of water for irrigation in this period include Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad and Aligarh.

Meanwhile, Executive Engineer, Muzaffarnagar Division, AK Rana said 73 thousands hectare of land would be affected in this district alone.
