Maize, bajra rise on increased offtake

Maize and bajra prices rose by up to Rs 40 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today due to pick up in demand from consuming industries.

However, rest other grains including wheat and rice basmati moved in a narrow range on little doing and settled around previous levels.

Traders said increased offtake by consuming industries against restricted supplies from producing regions mainly pushed up maize and bajra prices.

In the national capital, maize shot up by Rs 40 to Rs 1,660-1,665 per quintal. Bajra also edged up to Rs 1,430-1,435 from previous level of Rs 1,420-1,430 per quintal.

Basmati rice (Lal Quila) Rs 10,700, Shri Lal Mahal Rs 11,300, Super Basmati Rice Rs 9,700, Basmati common new Rs 5,100-5,200, Rice Pusa (1121) Rs 3,800-4,700, Permal raw Rs 1,900-1,950, Permal wand Rs 2,125-2,175, Sela Rs 2,400-2,500 and Rice IR-8 Rs 1,700-1,720, Bajra Rs 1,430-1,435, Jowar yellow Rs 1,700-1,800, white Rs 3,200-3,300, Maize Rs 1,660-1,665, Barley Rs 1,430-1,440.
