Maize futures fall over 2 per cent

Maize prices were down by Rs 34 to Rs 1,515 per quintal in futures trade today after participants cut down their bets amid a weak trend at the spot markets.

Moreover, increased arrivals in the spot markets from growing belts too weighed on prices.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, maize for delivery in far-month March next year contract was trading sharply lower by Rs 34, or 2.19 per cent to Rs 1,515 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 150 lots.

Also, most-active delivery in January 2016 eased by Rs 8, or 0.53 per cent to Rs 1,488 per quintal and open interest stood of 12,120 lots.
 

Marketmen said adeqauate stocks following increased arrivals from growing regions against muted demand at spot markets, mainly kept pressure on maize futures here.
