Maize futures gain 2.68 per cent

Maize price firmed up by Rs 39 to Rs 1,496 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators enlarged positions, tracking a firming trend at domestic market on rising demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, maize for delivery for in current month spurted by Rs 39, or 2.68 per cent to Rs 1,496 per quintal, with an open interest of 4,430 lots.

Also, maize for delivery in December month edged up by Rs 36, or 2.42 per cent to Rs 1,525 per quintal, in an open interest of 16,410 lots.

Marketmen said rising demand from consuming industries at the spot markets amid restricted arrivals from growing regions, influenced maize prices at futures trade.
