Maize prices were up by Rs 24 to Rs 1,515 per quintal in futures trading today as traders widened their bets, triggered by a firm trend at the domestic spot markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, maize for delivery in current month spurted by Rs 24, or 1.61 per cent to Rs 1,515 per quintal, having an open interest of 2,870 lots.

Also, far-month July contract was trading higher by Rs 24, or 1.59 per cent at Rs 1,535 per quintal, with a business turnover of 29,930 open lots.

Marketmen said enlarging of positions by participants supported by a better trend at the domestic market on strong demand mainly led to the rise in maize futures.

Besides, tight supplies in the spot market too supported the upside, they added.
