Maize prices recovered by Rs 28 to Rs 1,246 per quintal in futures trading today as traders indulged in building fresh positions amid rising demand in spot markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives exchange, maize prices for delivery in April rose by Rs 28, or 2.30 per cent, to Rs 1,246 per quintal in an interest of 5,010 lots.

Also, most-active May contracts were up by Rs 14, or 1.18 per cent, to Rs 1,197 per quintal, in an open interest of 7,750 lots.

Marketmen said fresh positions created by participants in line with firm spot markets on rising demand mainly led to the rise in maize prices at futures trade.

Besides, reports of a firming trend at global markets influenced sentiments here, they added.
