Maize slips 1.4% on weak spot sentiments

Traders say fresh arrivals in the market put pressure on futures trading

Maize futures declined by Rs 16 to Rs 1,134 per quintal today after traders minimised their holdings in view of weakness in physical market sentiments.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, maize price for April contract dropped by Rs 16, or 1.39 per cent, to Rs 1,134 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 3,480 lots.

The March contract slipped by Rs 11, or 0.88 per cent, to Rs 1,239 per quintal, with an open interest of 6,050 lots.

The February contract shed Rs 5, or 0.41 per cent, to Rs 1,226 per quintal, having an open interest of 1,520 lots.
 
Traders said fresh crop arrivals into the market put pressure on futures trading.

Besides, fall in prices in international markets weighed on the commodity, they added.
