Maize prices drifted lower by Rs 4 to Rs 1,155 per quintal in futures trade today as participants trimmed holdings in sync with weak sentiments at the physical markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, maize for delivery in May was trading lower by Rs 4 or 0.35 per cent to Rs 1,155 per quintal, having an open interest in 940 lots.

Similarly, the most-active delivery in June edged down by Rs 3 or 0.26 per cent to Rs 1,168 per quintal, having an open interest of 5,130 lots.

Marketmen said cutting down of positions by participants, tracking a weak trend at the spot markets on increased supplies from growing belts against muted demand from poultry feed makers, led to the fall in maize prices at futures market here.
