Maize strengthens on increased demand

Maize prices strengthened by Rs 5 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today following increased demand from consuming industries.

However, other grains including wheat and basmati rice moved in a tight range in limited deals and settled around previous levels.

Traders said increased demand from consuming industries mainly supported the upside in maize prices.

In the national capital, maize gained another Rs 5 to Rs 1,225-1,230 per quintal.

Following are today's quotations (in Rs per quintal):

Wheat MP (deshi) 2,245-2,445, Wheat dara (for mills) 1,615-1,620, Chakki atta (delivery) 1,620-1,625, Atta Rajdhani (10 kg) 220, Shakti bhog (10 kg) 220, Roller flour mill Rs 855-865 (50 kg), Maida 915-925 (50 kg) and Sooji 1,090-1,100
 

(50 kg).

Basmati rice (Lal Quila) 10,400, Shri Lal Mahal 10,000, Super Basmati Rice 9,500, Basmati common new 7,700-8,200, Rice Pusa (1121) new 6,500-8,200, Permal raw 2,100-2,150, Permal wand 2,250-2,300, Sela 2,650-2,700 and Rice IR-8 1,925-1,975,Bajra 1,160-1,165, Jowar yellow 1,380-1,400, white 2,300-2,500, Maize 1,225-1,230, Barley 1,610-1,615.
