A major fire broke out today at the waste dumping site of the Coach Rehabilitation Workshop (CRWS) of the West Central Railway (WCR) in Nishantpura area here, police said.

Nobody was injured in the incident, they said.

"The blaze broke out around 3.30 pm. It is yet to be brought under control," Bajaria Police Station Inspector Dinesh Pratap Singh told PTI.

The fire spread to the adjoining forest area, due to which some trees were reduced to ashes, he added.

Rise in mercury levels could have triggered the fire, he said adding, "Around 70 water tankers of different departments have been pressed into service and efforts are on to douse the flames.
