Major fire in building in Ludhiana; no casualty

A major fire broke out in a multi-storeyed building in a thickly populated area of Dal Bazaar here, in which a large portion of the building collapsed and hosiery goods were gutted, police said today.

The inferno caused heavy damage to ten hosiery units with a large portion of the building collapsing due to the fire last night, they said.

However, there was no report of any casualty in the fire, and four people in the building at the time of the mishap were taken out safely.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, said Bhupinder Singh, Assistant Fire Officer, Ludhiana fire brigade.
 

Besides Ludhiana, the fire fighters were called from Halwara, Phagwara, Phillaur, Jalandhar, Mandi Gobindgarh and Khanna to put out the fire.

The fire was completely put out this evening.
