Major rivers in UP flowing to brim

Major rivers in Uttar Pradesh are flowing to their brim and parts of over 10 districts were hit by flood as south-west monsoon remained active in the state.

The Ganga, Yamuna, Sharda, Ghahghra, Rapti and Burhi Rapti rivers were flowing above the danger mark at several places, according to Central Water Commission sources.

The Ganga river was flowing above the danger mark at Phaphamau, Chatnag, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Gazipur and Ballia they said, adding that it was flowing 1.91 and 2.53 mts above the mark respectively at Gazipur and Ballia.

The Yamuna river at Naini, Sharda at Palia Kalan, Ghaghra at Elgin Bridge and Turtipar, Rapti at Balrampur and Burhi Rapti at Kakrahi were flowing above the red mark.
 

Meteorological office said that moderate to rather heavy rains and thundershowers occurred at several places over the state.

Garotha got 17 cm rain, Moth 11, Jalesar 10, Akbarpur 9, Phoolpur and Moradabad 8 each, Salempur 7, Deoband 6, Robertganj, Kaisarganj, Khalilabad, Bhinga, Shikohabad, Nakur and Mainpuri got 5 cm each.
