Press Trust of India Chennai
: Students need to adopt a certain approach when they start working and need to stand up when the situation gets challenging, a top official of the Coca-Cola Company said today.

"The key for you is to develop a certain approach when you start working; allow something to shape you," Coca-Cola president - India and Southwest Asia, T Krishnakumar said.

He made the remarks while delivering his address at the first graduation day of city-based Rajalakshmi School of Business here today.

Stating that the world had changed and had become more "complex" than it was 35 years ago when he completed his graduation, Krishnakumar said US-based Kodak company was holding majority share in imaging business.

"Even today they hold 90 per cent market share but the industry they represent does not exist," he said and advised students to think out of the box during tough situations.

Noting that integrity holds more significance in today's industry, he said, "when the going gets tough, get excited. That is your moment. Those who run away during tough situations, do not succeed".

Urging the graduating students to "show empathy", particularly when in business, he said, earlier the management set-up in an organisation was different as the company when it made profits directly shared it with shareholders.

"But over the last few decades, it has moved towards stakeholders. You cannot satisfy shareholders without satisfying the other stakeholders like the community, government," he said.

Rajalakshmi Institutions chairperson Dr Thangam Meganathan and Krishnakumar presented degrees and medals to meritorious students on the occasion.
