A 'Make Chandigarh Honk Free' campaign has been initiated here by the city traffic police under which people are being sensitised about not honking needlessly on the road.

Under this novel initiative, 'I will not honk' stickers are being distributed free of cost to people to be pasted on the steering wheels of their vehicles.

"We are running an awareness campaign in which people are being urged not to honk unnecessarily," Chandigarh Police Inspector Sita, the nodal officer for this project said.

This campaign will be run throughout this year, she said adding, no enforcement action had yet been decided to be taken against the violators.

We have already distributed 4,500 stickers, she said.

SSP (Traffic) Chandigarh Shashank Anand is the brain behind the 'No honking' campaign, she said.

"I will not honk" stickers are available at Children Traffic Park, sector 23, free of cost.

Many city residents on the social media have welcomed the move.

"I love how @trafficchd is taking the initiative to make Chandigarh a honk free city! Great work @ssptfcchd and team! #MakeChandigarhHonkFree," said one Harshdeep Singh on his twitter handle.
