Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed today ordered for a comprehensive survey on homeless low income group families and economically weaker sections to have a fair assessment on the actual requirement of residential colonies in Jammu and Kashmir.

While giving this directive to the state's Housing and Urban Development Department, Sayeed also laid emphasis on providing well laid out roads, schools, hospitals, malls, parks and other basic amenities.

"As a matter of policy, a portion of flats should be earmarked for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Low Income Group (LIG) families," he said.

On Tuesday, the Chief Minister had ordered framing a comprehensive policy to overcome acute shortage of affordable housing colonies and formulation of a panel, headed by the Chief Secretary, to ensure execution of projects by Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) and Jammu Development Authority (JDA) in a time-bound manner.

As a follow-up to his meeting on SDA yesterday, Sayeed took several important decisions related to construction of housing colonies and commercial complexes while chairing a high-level meeting to review progress of ongoing Jammu Development Authority (JDA) projects.
