Optimal use of public money and resources is critical in achieving development goals and it should be done keeping in mind the best interest of people, President Pranab Mukherjee said today.

He was speaking to 25 officer trainees of Indian Audit and Accounts Service (2012 batch) who called on him at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

"Optimal use of public money and public resources is critical for achieving our nation's development goals and inclusive growth. This should duly and invariably take into account the best interests of Government and the people of India -- in whose name the expenditure is being incurred," Mukherjee said.

These officers are currently undergoing an 89-week professional training at the National Academy of Audit and Accounts, Shimla, a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement said.

The batch comprises of 21 officer trainees selected through the Civil Service Examination conducted by the UPSC and two officer trainees -- each from Supreme Audit Institutions of Nepal and Bhutan. Among the 25 officer trainees, seven are women, it said.
