The railways was making all efforts to ensure the safety of VIPs travelling by trains, Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain assured a fellow MP in the Lok Sabha today.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP from the Bargarh Lok Sabha Constituency in Odisha, Prabhas Singh had asked if the national transporter was aware that VIPs faced security hazards due to non-allotment of berths to those escorting them near their berths.

"All efforts are being made to allot berths to the escort parties of VIPs near the berths of the VIPs," Gohain said.

He added that instructions were already issued to ensure that the security personnel (not exceeding one in each coach) accompanying governors, Union ministers and state ministers were allowed to travel on the corridor of the First Class coach, in which the VIP was travelling, after obtaining a proper identification from the personal staff of the VIP concerned in advance.
