In order to ensure that the young generation of ethnic Indians in Malaysia is aware of their Indian traditions and customs, Hindu temple committees should organise religious seminars and weekly classes, a senior temple committee member here has said.

Malaysia's Hindu Sangam president R S Mohan Shan's reaction comes after he observed that some of young pilgrims danced in an indecent manner while carrying the kavadi ( a heavy wooden frame carried by devotees on their shoulders during festivals) during the tamil festival of Thaipusam, local newspaper 'Tamil Nesan' reported.

Such behaviour had created a poor impression of the culture and tradition of the community, he told reporters after attending an award ceremony for students' achievement held at a temple in Sitiawan on Sunday.

The sanctity of a temple must always be protected, Shan added.

Multi ethnic Malaysia's population of 29 million includes nine percent ethnic Indians most of them Tamil Hindus.
