Malaysia's three party opposition alliance is all set to collapse, with the Islamic fundamentalist political party PAS announcing its decision to snap ties with the Democratic Action Party (DAP).

The Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS)'s shura council secretary Nik Zawawi Salleh said the decision was made as the party was disappointed with the DAP's fervent "provocation" against it.

He said DAP's action was a breach of the opposition alliance cooperation spirit.

The DAP had constantly interfered in PAS' struggles, policies and objectives, he said adding the PAS would maintain its ties with the other opposition party the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

PAS has said it will continue its ties with any party be it other political parties and non-Muslim NGO's adding that PAS will hold strongly to the Islamic policies in any political cooperation.

Zawawi added that this decision would then be handed to PAS' central committee to be executed.

PKR had also appeared to agree with DAP, with its president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail saying that the opposition alliance no longer functioned normally as a coalition.
