Travel agents and Malaysian nationals, especially ethnic Indians, have for a long time sought for the lift in travel restrictions to India which had imposed a two month gap between two consecutive visits to the country.

"This is absolutely brilliant news" Thomas Ernest of City East-West Travels told PTI.

Ernest said ethnic Indians felt helpless and hassled as earlier they were unable to attend sudden weddings or religious functions as they could not get another tourist visa immediately.

He said many small businessmen who wanted to explore the market and did not go in for business visas also opposed the restrictions.

This is the best news today, Ernest, whose agency specialises in travels to India said.

Many ethnic Indians have extended families in India especially Tamil Nadu, while many others visit the country often for pilgrimage.

A press statement issued by the High Commission here said all other procedures for application of Indian tourist visa remained unchanged.

"This measure would further ease the travel of Malaysian nationals to India for tourism purposes" the statement said.

Business travels for Malaysian nationals was not constricted by the earlier rule.
