Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdul Samad Abdulla suffered a severe heart attack and has been admitted to the intensive care unit of a leading hospital in Singapore.
The Maldivian Foreign Ministry described the 67-year-old minister's condition as "very critical" at Singapore's Mount Elizabeth.
A Ministry spokesman said Samad had originally travelled to Singapore for medical purposes.

The purpose of Samad's trip was to undergo kidney dialysis, Minivan newspaper reported today.
It has also been reported that Samad underwent heart bypass surgery 15 years ago.
The minister has served in numerous roles for both the Maldives Health Ministry and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
He has also served as the first High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh and was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in March 2012.
