In his first foreign trip after assuming the Presidency of the country, Waheed, who will be accompanied by his wife Ilham Hussain and a high-level delegation, will be in India for five days during which he will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil.
"The visit of the President shall provide an opportunity to both sides to continue the ongoing dialogue and provide further impetus to the bilateral relationship," MEA said here today.
Apart from exploring further areas of cooperation, India will also get an update on the situation in Maldives which witnessed a tumultous political transition in Febraury when Waheed succeeded Mohd Nasheed as President.
Besides Delhi, Waheed is also scheduled to visit Mumbai.
Defence cooperation between Maldives and India is also likely to figure in the talks between the two countries.
Waheed, the then Vice President, had succeeded Nasheed as President who was ousted on February 7 after weeks of public protests following his action to arrest a judge.

Nasheed claimed he was removed in a "coup" and his party has urged an independent investigation into the events of February 7.
India had sent Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai to defuse tensions immediately after the upheaval and under a deal brokered by him the Maldivian government announced that it will hold early elections.
