Jayachandran Mokeri, a teacher from Kerala who had been imprisoned by the Mali government since the past 8 months for allegedly abusing a student, was freed today.

Jayachandran, an english teacher who was in Maldives since 2007, was arrested and put behind bars on allegations of abusing a student in his class.

The student had later withdrawn the complaint, but Jayachandran was not released.
